Signs You Should Find a New Trucking Company

Magnifier centred on the East Coast.

Is it time to switch? Here’s what to think about.

An outsourced trucking company should be one of your most trusted business partners. Any business you outsource work to should be as trustworthy as your in-house team members. You are relying on a completely different entity for services that will make happy or unhappy customers at the end of the day. How do you know it’s time to find a new trucking company, if ever?

Unmet Expectations

Consider switching trucking companies when the company promises certain services but fails to come through with them. What they offer could even be too ambitious; for example, they might promise same-day delivery when the travel distance is too far or difficult to make in one day. They might promise excellent customer service, but you are met with unfriendly and unhelpful staff.

Poor Communication

Communication in business is a skill, and unfortunately, not everyone possesses it. While it is something people can improve on over time, it should not be the norm. If you are repeatedly experiencing miscommunications, it could lead to ongoing delays and mishaps that could easily be avoided with clear and orderly communication.

Poorly Maintained Equipment

Poorly maintained equipment is a danger sign to your cargo. You don’t want a lackadaisical company to handle your precious cargo. If anything, it is a lack of attention to detail. If you notice the trucks have issues, bring it up to the trucking provider and find a new trucking company if the problems persist.

Poor Internal Management

Is the business run well internally? Is there a high employee turnover, or are employees unhappy where they work? What is their customer retention like? Toxic work environments are not ideal for customers receiving services from these businesses.

Unreasonable Costs

If the cost to outsource trucking services or rent trucks for your freight is sky high, you can check with other businesses or get free quotes from other providers to check if the price is reasonable or even common. If the price is unreasonable, or you can find a better deal with another high-quality company, you can consider negotiating the current price or switching trucking companies.
