Even in the summer heat, truckers can drive cool.

With so many heat waves rolling across the country every summer, you might wonder how truckers stay cool in the summer. Otherwise, you might be a trucker who wants some ideas on how to keep cool. With any of these ideas, truckers can stay in great shape and drive comfortably to their destinations.

How Truckers Keep Cool in Summer

Maintaining the Truck

Maintaining the truck is the first step. Truckers must check the coolant, fans, and other components that would allow the driver’s cab to stay at a comfortable temperature even in the heat of summer.

Maintaining Airflow

Keeping the semi-truck ventilated will also encourage healthy, cool air in the driver’s area. You can do this by letting the vehicle take in outside air through the air conditioner or the windows. It is better to maintain a comfortable temperature at a lower setting than blast the AC unit.

Parking in the Shade

A shady area is naturally cooler than a spot in direct sunlight, even when the air is humid. Truck drivers can help keep their vehicles cooler inside by parking in the shade, whether it be beside a large shade tree or a tall building.

Sun Shades and Window Tints

If no such shade is available, preventing the bright sunlight from accessing your vehicle without compromising your driving is also a good solution. You can use sun shades to protect your dashboard and front seats when parked. Window tints can block some UV rays from accessing the interior as well.

Evaporative Cooling

If the air conditioning isn’t enough, you could also run a small fan inside the driving area. To make the air even cooler, place a couple of ice-cold or frozen water bottles in front of the fan or AC to spread chillier air throughout the vehicle.

How Truckers Keep Freight Cool in Summer

Truckers’ health is crucial to the successful transportation of parts and goods across the country and beyond. What about the freight? It’s true that semi-truck trailers can heat up in summer, but that is not necessarily detrimental to the load. If it is, then refrigerated trucking is the better alternative.
