New truck drivers should also familiarize themselves with the traffic patterns of the areas they will be passing through. Not knowing about the common rush hour times in each area can have new truck drivers sitting in heavy traffic for several hours, which can quickly place them behind schedule. New truck drivers should check the traffic reports a week before heading out onto the road to determine which areas of interstate to avoid during certain times.
New truck drivers should also be sure to allow time to rest before they fall victim to fatigue. While they may think that pushing through will save time, they could be placing themselves in serious danger of crashing.
