Happy Fourth of July weekend! Here’s what those in the trucking industry should know about truck shipping this time of year.

Every Fourth of July weekend, truckers across America continue to supply millions of stores, warehouses, medical facilities, factories, and more with everything they need to continue supporting the economy and civilization itself. On this holiday, truckers are not exempt from keeping up business. There are several items of concern that those involved must consider for the Fourth of July and truck shipping in 2026 and beyond.

One of the Busiest Truck Shipping Days of the Year

Some trucking companies may give their employees Fourth of July off, but some will give incentives to truckers for working this busy truck shipping day. This time of year is one of the busiest for truck shipping, and work may be pushed earlier or later than the holiday to work around holiday hours for warehouses and other establishments. If you are shipping a load with a trucking company like Evan Transportation, you can expect your delivery to arrive on time, even during the Fourth of July.

Oversized Load Freight Travel Restrictions

The exception is oversized and overweight loads. Different states, including Maryland, have different rules prohibiting oversized (OS) and overweight (OW) loads from traveling during this time, especially with the heightened level of holiday traffic. In Maryland, no travel is in place as early as noon on July 2 through 9 a.m. July 6. While these travel restrictions help maintain holiday travel safety, truckers and drivers must be cautious and cooperative with each other for a smooth and pleasant trip on all sides.

Theft Prevention

With the heightened truck shipping and holiday traffic, theft becomes even more a problem in the truck shipping world around the Fourth of July. Trucking companies must safeguard loads diligently, taking measures such as using industrial-level access control and other security systems and parking trucks with their doors backed against a wall, to name a couple of examples.

Heat Wave Safety

July is also one of the hottest months of the year, and in 2026, we are expecting a heat wave, with temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the height of the day. Truckers must make sure to keep hydrated and their vehicles well-maintained under the stress of the high heat. In general, a heat wave will not be severe enough to stop truck shipping from continuing as normal, but heat wave safety precautions are still a must.
