WAKE UP!!

It is estimated that driver fatigue is responsible for 20% of all road fatalities. Most of these fatal accidents occur during regular sleeping hours. Here are a few ways to recognize driver fatigue and prevent it in the future. This can save not only your life, but the lives of others on the road. It’s as important to put as much care into yourself as you do into your truck.

The Symptoms Of Driver Fatigue

These include the obvious symptoms of fatigue, such as yawning, heavy eyelids, and a general feeling of tiredness. There are, however, a number of other symptoms of driver fatigue to be aware of and watch out for while driving. If you are daydreaming excessively, you may be experiencing a symptom of driver fatigue. If you are fatigued, you may also slowly increase or decrease your speed while driving without being aware of it. You may also feel stiff in your back, neck, or limbs. Driver fatigue has not only physical, but emotional effect. Be wary if you find yourself feeling incredibly impatient or irritable. You don’t want to make rash or angry decisions on the road.

How To Overcome Driver Fatigue

The best way to prevent driver fatigue is to make sure that you get a good night’s sleep before setting out on any trucking trip. It is also recommended not to drive for more than ten hours at a time. Take breaks at least every two hours to make sure that you are moving your muscles. This will increase blood flow which helps to keep you awake and alert and allay the symptoms of driver fatigue. If you are taking all of these tips into consideration and making use of them and still feel fatigued, it may be useful to pull over and take a short power nap. If you ever find that your driving is impaired or that you’re falling asleep at the wheel, immediately pull your truck over and rest.  There is nothing more important than your safety and the safety of other drivers.
