Did you know? Truck drivers can experience these different types of semis.
Semi-truck drivers have a secret life that few regular people know about. Semi-trucks take raw and finished products to different points along the supply chain locally and across state and country lines. There are different kinds of semi trucks, which can be categorized in different ways. Below, we’ll take a brief look at the different types of semi trucks for drivers.
Day Cabs
Day cabs are semi trucks with shorter driver cabs because they lack the back area where the bed would be in a sleeper. A day cab is more affordable and has minimalist amenities, enough for local truck drivers to get from point A to point B. Because of their smaller size, they are more fuel-efficient and have better maneuverability. Of course, the downside is that truckers will need to pay for a room if they are on the road.
Sleeper Cabs
Flat Roof Sleeper
A flat roof sleeper cab is the most compact and practical kind of sleeper cab. It doesn’t have much headroom or amenities, but it gets the job done in giving a trucker a place to sleep at night. If the trucker is okay with the simple sleeping space, then it’s a great deal.
Mid-Roof Sleeper
A mid-roof sleeper has more headroom and offers more amenities, such as storage space, room for a TV, and perhaps a mini fridge. This is a mid-range sleeper cab that provides a little more comfort for truckers on the road.
Raised Roof Sleeper
A raised roof sleeper offers the most headroom and the most features; luxury sleeper cabs can basically feel like an RV inside, complete with a bathroom and a banquet seating area. These semi trucks can be quite sizable and are probably the most worthwhile for OTR truck drivers.
