Long drives can be tiring. How do truckers keep awake?

If you have experienced some long road trips or even a lengthy day trip, you might have had a taste of how tiring driving long hours can be. The life of a trucker involves driving every day. The driving length could be anywhere from some minutes to days. If it’s a regional trucker, the trip could take as long as a day. No matter what, truckers need to stay alert on the road. Here’s how truckers stay awake.

How Truckers Stay Awake

Get Enough Sleep

All you have to do is to look at Reddit, the fount of much wisdom, to read how important it is to get enough sleep every night. Give yourself as much as you need and cut off distractions and communications. Get yourself into a bedtime routine you enjoy and take care of yourself as you know how.

Stay Hydrated

Hydration matters much more than staying caffeinated. Caffeine keeps someone stimulated, but it dehydrates, which can cause headache, fatigue, and other issues, such as having a harder time falling asleep later on.

Eat Nutritiously

Eating well helps every bit. Eat highly nutritious food your body craves or discover nutrient-rich food that you enjoy most. Eating nutritious food and, in some cases, supplements, will give you improved physical, mental, and emotional health.

Stay Stimulated

Long, monotonous work is easier to handle when you can give yourself a rhythm or stay stimulated. Do what works for you. It could be singing, chewing gum, sipping cold water, listening to stand-up comedy, listening to audio books or podcasts, or taking a little bit of caffeine in addition to having healthy habits. Stopping to get some quick exercise also helps.

Maintain a Routine

Keeping a routine will set your body in motion to be alert and awake during the time you need to be most active. For truckers, it could be during the day or night

Prioritize Your Health and Safety

Should a truck driver get drowsy, it’s best to pull over and take a fifteen-minute nap. It is better to rest enough to stay safe than to deliver the load on time. It is better to deliver the load late but safely than not at all with the potential cost of your health or life.
