Take a look at some spring cleaning tips for your rig.

March is right around the corner, which means it’s almost time for spring cleaning! As the weather starts to warm up and the sun starts to shine again, it’s nearly that time of year where everyone gets the motivation to clean their home or office from the long winter. Truckers may not have an office to clean, but they do have their big rig! Here are a few tips on how to clean your big rig for a fresh start to the new season.

Pressure Wash

A good place to start your spring cleaning is my hosing down your rig with a pressure washer. Trucks go through more wear and tear than a standard vehicle and need a more powerful clean than a car. A high-grade pressure washer is the best tool for washing down the rig and making it look brand new again. However, you need to choose the right type of washer for your specific rig. The difference in using a gas vs. electric pressure washer could damage your truck, so ensure you choose the correct machine. Also, you don’t want to start with a powerful pressure setting, as that can cause surface damage to your rig. Instead, start with a low-pressure setting then increase the pressure as you go to ensure you keep your rig damage free.

Wax On, Wax Off

If you don’t have access to a power washer or want an additional clean for your rig, use wax to get your truck sparkling clean for the spring. Hand waxing is a great way to take a closer look at your truck and find any blemishes or rust spots and take care of them. Also, many waxes have a coating to protect your rig from rain and other elements. Start with an even coat and let it sit for a few minutes, then polish and buff it out.

Interior

Now that the outside of your rig is looking clean, it’s time to tackle the inside! After a long, cold winter, it’s likely that your rig needs a good deep clean. After all, your rig is like your second home, so it deserves some maintenance to make it as comfortable as possible. Clean out all the trash you’ve accumulated over the winter, and sweep or vacuum the floors of all dirt and excess filth. Also, take some time to clean the windows and disinfect the entire interior of germs to ensure you’re starting off the spring on a healthy note!
